Following the official iPhone 5S unveiling earlier this week, a new job listing has suggested Apple could be working on a solar powered iPhone. Having introduced the iPhone 5S with an integrated fingerprint scanner on Tuesday, new reports have claimed that future Apple handsets could introduce solar powered elements to reduce the growing stain on phones’ integrated batteries.
Although it is not believed that solar powered iPhone technology will be incorporated within next year’s iPhone 6, the latest job listing shows an intent from the Cupertino based company to make its future portable devices more self-sustainable on a power front. Spotted on the Apple Jobs website, the solar powered themed position within the company’s Mobile Devices group is seeking candidates with experience in thin film deposition technology focussed on solar industries and semiconductor processing. While Apple has filed a range of solar incorporating patents over the years, the new job listing seemingly maarks a new sign of intent from the company responsible for some of the world’s most popular portable devices including the iPhone 5S, iPad mini, iPod touch and MacBook Pro. With the iPhone 5S formally unveiled earlier this week alongside the colourful iPhone 5C, Apple has incorporated a range of new sensors within its latest flagship smartphone. As well as the home button incorporated Touch ID fingerprint scanner, the iPhone 5S hosts an M7 chip alongside the A7 processor, with the addition chipset incorporating a range of user tracking data metrics. Building on the usual accelerometer and gyroscope sensors, the M7 chip will offer more precise personal performance data.
